Give new life to old gold. Sunday mornings Recycle workshop (9.30am-12pm) is a free/donations-based opportunity to melt those pieces of tangled chain, odd earrings and maybe sentimental pieces that you just never wear, into a gold bar or sheet that can be made into something new- either that afternoon in our Jewellery Workshop using recycled gold (1.30-5pm) , or at another time. The afternoon workshop is €70 to include gold-solder and sundries. Story Bowl sampling under way using rough sketches mapped out by the brilliant @rossstewart.art, copper reclaimed from @catherineryanbain roof and a smaller carved rock bowl. I teach chasing and repousse to my students @grennanmillcraftschool but I don't use this technique so much in my own work so this project will really give me the chance to improve upon the skills that my father first taught me as a child. Looking at the incredible works of @aidan.breen.16 for inspiration. Thanks to @artscouncilireland for awarding me an #agilityaward2023 to help realise this project. New year new projects. A nice therapeutic first da

New year new projects. A nice therapeutic first day back squishing clay between my fingers and mocking up a small model for Anthropoware V. This will be used to make a rubber mould from which will be cast a plastic maquette that I can use as a pin-cushion of sorts to mock up ideas quickly. I have found with these sculptures that collaging all of the elements that I want to include has been a far more successful design process for me than drawing, at least for the early stages of the design work, as it helps me to not only visualise how the piece will look but also if it will work as a kinetic sculpture. Anthopoware V will be a larger version of this series of sculptures and will visually display many of the elements that combined to enable a piece like this to exist. Here's to a new year of peace, good health, advent

Here's to a new year of peace, good health, adventures, creativity, and cultivating joy and purpose in whatever you do. My work year ended on a high (coupled with the usual dose of imposter syndrome) to get news last week that Anthropoware III has been moved from visible storage and installed into the 21st Century Irish Craft Gallery in The National Decorative Arts Museum in Collins Barracks. Must admit I shed a few tears when the photograph came in and I saw some of my cabinet buddies @stucairnsmaker @cecilia_moore_silversmith @seamusgillsilversmith ,artists I have long looked up to and even been lucky enough to learn from. Excited to visit the museum and see who my other neighbours are! So grateful to be making the work that I want to make and many many thanks to all of the people who support all areas of my work.
