Mothers First (formerly the Varanasi Childrens Hospital) is a 100% non-profit small Irish NGO providing nutrition to malnourished pregnant mothers and children in India since 2004 whilst also supporting educational programs in nutrition, literacy and self-empowerment.

I have been fortunate to visit the outreach programs in Varanasi several times since meeting project founder Paddy McMahon  in 2011 and witness the results of Paddy and the teams dedication and hard work made possible only by donations. The projects are 100% non-profit, and receive no government funding so without the generosity of others the projects, like those reliant on their support, simply would not survive.

While life is never easy for those in the villages supported by Mothers First, Covid is having a devastating effect as aid-workers simply cant get near them and the UN estimates that 10,000 more children, per month could die from hunger, due to Covid- 19 impacts. By purchasing this spoon you are helping to break the cycle of malnutrition, poverty and death for countless families.
